Delicate. What am I going to shoot for delicate? That kept running through my head this week. I have two boys and I am more of a bull in a china shop kind of girl so there really isn't anything in my daily life that I would classify as delicate. I thought of a spider web because to me those are so very delicate yet amazingly strong considering their function. However, in this Indiana snow and cold I didn't find any. I also didn't venture out to far from the house in this weather. So, I decided to go a little different route and instead of shooting something that is delicate I went with a delicate action. We have been playing a lot of board games recently and the game Operation immediately came to mind. It takes a delicate touch to not light up the nose. I got the game out and had my oldest help me with the shot and I decided to go with the nose all nice and lit up instead of demonstrating the actual delicate touch of not lighting it up. This is about as delicate as things get in a house with two little boys and a mom like me.
This is just my take on this theme but please check out my friend, Kim's, delicate photo!
Love. That seems pretty easy to photograph considering I have a husband I am deeply in love with, two little boys I love like crazy, and countless hobbies and interests I love. So why did I find myself unable to come up with something to shoot? Well, I thought of something but I wasn't sure about it so I kept trying to come up with something else. Something fun! Something creative! Something heart stopping! However, I kept going back to my original idea. All I could think about was how God showed perfect love for me, an imperfect person. So, I didn't do anything fun, creative or necessarily heart stopping. I did something honest and from my heart. If it weren't for His love I wouldn't be able to express my love for my husband, kids, family, and friends.

This week has been super busy with things other than photography which unfortunately mean my time to dedicate to this theme was also slim. Yesterday I decided to take my camera with me as I went to pick one of my boys up from an after school event. I figured I would force myself to shoot something red and make it work. So there I sat waiting for him and the only thing around me that was red was this hydrant. So that is what I went with. If you were in the car ahead of me and thought I was crazy when I stepped out of my car and snapped a photo of it, you might be slightly right! So here I had this photo of a hydrant and wasn't real sure what to do with it. I decided to not do a whole lot with but just enough to hopefully make it at least slightly interesting. This is why I love doing challenges, step away from the usual and work with what you find. Please enjoy this hydrant!
This week's theme had my mind swirling around like a tornado. There were so many things I wanted to do it was hard for me to pick just one. Oh yeah, the fact that I have only ever done one other photo similar to this was a small part of the deciding process as well. I didn't want to make it so challenging that it would be discouraging but yet I wanted to push myself as well. I used some brand new editing techniques I had never used before. That's one of the things I love about doing these challenges. Anyway, this is what I went with which is a photo of my youngest with his Guardians of the Galaxy figures. This is three separate photos manipulated to make this one. One of the figures, one of my son and one of the sphere that is in his hand because it is super tiny and would have never shown up in his hand if I hadn't done it by itself. I like to call this photo, "A New Guardian in the Galaxy".
The other photographers that are participating in this challenge also came up with some amazing photos. Check out my friend Sonia's photo too!
I am part of a group of local photographers that are participating in a 52 week photo challenge. This week's theme was "profile". This sweet profile is of my oldest son who is almost 12. He isn't a fan of being my "model" but I convinced him for this because he didn't have to do anything special, just be himself. I will be posting a profile style photo of myself tomorrow and you will be able to see if he looks like me or not. I think he definitely has my nose.
This week's theme was very challenging for me. I am not comfortable being in front of the camera. I tried a few different things and just did not like the way any of them turned out. I don't like the way I look therefore I never like any, I mean any, photos of me. However, I refused to let that keep me from fulfilling this week's challenge. I mean one of the reasons I do these is to step out of that wonderful comfort zone and see what I end up with. Anyway, I was editing a photo of my son, I posted it yesterday, for the other photo challenge I am doing and decided to try a different take on my selfie. I picked up my camera and stretched my arm out to the side as far as I could while sitting in front of my computer. The only light in the room was from its' screen. This photo is a result of that. I'm not in love with it but it also didn't cause me to cry, which might have happened earlier when I tried getting a photo of myself. So here I am, some of you may have never seen a photo of me or even seen me in person. This is what I look like after a long day of being a wife, mom and photographer.
I am doing this challenge with some amazing beautiful photographer friends that all have taken their own selfie and shared it on their blog. Check out my friend Jennifer's gorgeous photo!
This week's theme for the "finding me" challenge was a bit more challenging for me. I took several photos of different items ranging from my orange at breakfast to both of my boys' legos. I decided to try one last item and that is what I ended up staying with which is my son's keyboard. There really isn't a great story behind the significance of this particular photo. I am trying to step away from portraits for the challenge since that is what I do for clients and just shoot what I see around me. It has been a lot of fun seeing everyone's interpretation for this week's theme because they are all so very different. Check out my friend Brandi's close up photo!
I am doing two separate photo challenges this year. They are both a 52 week challenge meaning I have a new theme each week. Sometimes the themes happen to be the same and sometimes they are different. This week they happen to be the same, "white". The photo I did for this theme is of my youngest kiddo, E, and his special snuggle buddy, sheepie. He has had this little white sheep since he was two and although she is one of several snuggle buddies, she is the favorite. She has been with us on all of our family vacations and she gets to visit my parents when the boys spend the night there. I know that this stage in E's life will be over soon but sheepie is one of those things I plan to tuck away for safe keeping.
In the upcoming weeks I will be sharing the rest of my challenge photos as well as links to some of my friends blogs that are doing the Finding Me Challenge as well. Look for those in the near future. Also feel free to click the like button to the right and follow my facebook page as well.
So last year I attempted to do a daily photo challenge for the month of January. I lasted 13 days. Yep, not even half of the month. So this year I thought I would take it a little easier on myself and do a new theme once a week. You know give myself some cushion for when life gets busy and I barely have time to think much less pick up my camera. Well I couldn't just stick with one, no I got "pulled" into two different ones. So lucky for me sometimes the themes will be overlapping within the week but others won't be. The first week of January consisted of the theme new for one and sparkle and shine for the other. For those of you who know me personally know the words sparkle and shine aren't in my vocabulary so I had to really think about that one. The theme new however, was fairly easy. It's a new year, I have new goals, new motivation and a new calendar! So that is what I decided to use first.
The second photo is just a quick snap with my phone of a Christmas ornament I bought myself for our tree. I never buy new ornaments, outside of the ones we buy every year for our boys, but I "splurged" this year and bought myself a shiny sparkly camera! I guess the theme new carries into this post in another way as well since this blogging thing is new to me and this is my very first post! Check back each week for a new themed photo and let's see if I can stick with it for the year!
